Аннотация:The subject of study, touched upon in the article, is installation as a form of monumental art; it answers basic questions about its formation, gives its actual definition, forms a conceptual apparatus and reveals the full histori-cal context of that phenomenon. The development of art installation as a syn-thetic, immersive form of monumental art is comprehended in which a monu-mental artist acts as the creator of the spatial artistic work-environment. Un-derstanding the historical context of the installation phenomenon will contrib-ute to a better understanding of the artistic processes taking place at present, and the developed conceptual apparatus will allow to operate with the terms that have not been theoretically substantiated before. The article is written in search of the ways to solve the problem of incomplete theoretical substantia-tion of the installation phenomenon and suggests a definition and characteris-tics of installation from the point of view of monumental art.
