Аннотация:This chapter explores the experience whereby international lawyers come to feel a deep affection for international organizations and, notwithstanding compelling criticisms of international organizations in recent decades, continue to grant them a very central place in their practical, conceptual, cognitive, imaginary, and emotional universe. This chapter thus discusses the very experience that makes international lawyers elevate international organizations into a kingpin of international legal thought and practice, such centrality being the very reality effect produced by the experience of affection discussed in this chapter. Attention is particularly paid to nine drivers of international lawyers' affection for international organizations, namely the latter's taking care of people, their showing where to look for power, their knowing so much, their romanticizing history, their providing a common standard of experience, their textualizing the universe, their providing and organizing space for discontent, their expanding international lawyers' field of study, and their holding many secrets.
