Аннотация:Disturbance and resilience of Europe's forestsDisturbances are important drivers of natural forest ecosystem dynamics. They have, however, largely negative impacts on the provisioning of forest ecosystem services, challenging sustainable forest management.Disturbances have increased strongly in Europe in the past decades.Yet, Europe's forests are largely resilient to disturbances, meaning that important forest characteristics recover relatively quickly after disturbance. However, a combination of more frequent climatic extremes and increasing disturbances could erode forest resilience in the future. It is thus important that the management adapts to increasing disturbances and fosters the resilience of forest ecosystems.
