Аннотация:The study looks at historical and onomastic aspects of ship names. The paper presents an overview of similar and different tendencies in Russian ship naming in the 19th century and after the revolutionary changes at the beginning of the 20th century. This study is based on the material taken from newspapers and books of those times containing names of ships and is concerned with the influence that social and cultural factors had on giving ship names.
