Аннотация:The purpose of this text is to show the uneven and somewhat incidental presence of samples of contemporary Slovenian novels in Bulgarian. In other words, the extent to which the infrastructure of the cultural process – translators, publishers, book distribution, festivals, readings, visits, advertising – affirms the authentic, dignified and representative face of Slovenian literature, and the extent to which it is the result of chance and coercion. Is there a mechanism by which an author and his or her works can appear on the Bulgarian book market, or is it a spontaneous choice? What is the competence in the selection of Slovenian titles and who is the authorised body for such selection? Which reader does a book translated from Slovenian “target”? The reflections also raise the broader question of literary exchange strategies within the European Union.
