Аннотация: This year, we hosted the 17th meeting of Endoscopy Forum Japan (EFJ). The first EFJ meeting was held in 1999 with the aims of promoting internationalization, standardization, and cooperation between engineers and endoscopists. In the fourth-term committee, EFJ continued to work toward these aims, guided by the three operational principles held since its inception: specifically, internationalization of endoscopic medical care, standardization of endoscopic techniques, and support for the improvement and development of endoscopic equipment through cooperation between engineers and endoscopists. Endoscopy Forum Japan (EFJ) 2015 was held in Odaiaba, Tokyo, on August 1–2. To date, Hokkaido has been the most common venue for our meetings, but they have been held in other places, including Awaji Island and Hakone. EFJ 2015 was the first EFJ meeting to be held in Tokyo. Heading into the 2020 Olympics, Tokyo is currently undergoing rapid development. To get a sense of this growth and enthusiasm, we decided to have our meeting in Tokyo. I believe that EFJ will continue to grow like never before. The goal of the fourth-term committee of EFJ, of which I am the Chairman, is the further growth of EFJ and generational change. Following a short film called “The Growth of EFJ and Tokyo: Past and Present”, the meeting began at 7:50 a.m., with 48 Japanese endoscopists and seven international endoscopists in attendance. The guests from overseas were Dr. Vikram Bhatia (India), Dr. Ho Dang Quy Dung (Vietnam), Dr. Shiaw Hooi Ho (Malaysia), Dr. Ping-Hsin, Hsieh (Taiwan), Dr. Bora Keum (Korea), Dr. Supakij Khomvilai (Thailand), and Dr. Alan Moss (Australia). On the first day, sessions on three topics were held: “Endoscopic diagnosis of serrated lesions,” “Current situation of cannulation and salvage for difficult cases,” and “Recommendations for appropriate endoscopic diagnosis of gastric epithelial/nonepithelial tumor in Asian countries.” Each of the topics was discussed actively after the keynote lecture to arrive at conclusions and consensus. Before dinner, an evening seminar was held. In the seminar, four young endoscopists (one woman and three men) and one young engineer spoke about their hopes for the future. On the second day, endoscopists and engineers discussed new technology for improving endoscopic diagnosis and treatment, as well as the development of new techniques. In this year's meeting, as in the year before, English was used in slides while Japanese was the official language for presentations and discussions in the Technology sessions to promote deeper understanding. I believe that this session contributed to the ongoing and future growth of EFJ through in-depth, thorough debates. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of the EFJ 2015 organizing committee; Dr. Mitsuhiro Fujishiro, Secretary-General of the Program Committee; and Dr. Takuji Gotoda, Dr. Hiroyuki Isayama, Dr. Takahisa Matsuda, Dr. Shiro Oka, Dr. Noriya Uedo, Dr. Ichiro Yasuda, Dr. Takao Itoi, and Dr. Yutaka Saito. I would also like to thank all the participants for their excellent presentations and active discussions. I appreciate all the members' efforts in taking time from their busy schedule to prepare manuscripts for this supplemental issue, thus contributing to the quality of the meeting and supplement. I am also deeply grateful to the members of the Digestive Endoscopy Editorial Board for their support and for the opportunity to publish the results of EFJ 2015 in this journal. I believe that enthusiastic discussion and support provided by EFJ participants will further advance endoscopic diagnosis and treatment, enabling us to continue providing value information to the global community of endoscopists. I hope this supplement will serve as a touchstone for endoscopic examinations and as a reference for future research in endoscopy. With many thanks.
