Аннотация:Appropriate surgery assumes a complete understanding of the anatomy of the procedure that is planned. An error that can arise from mistaken anatomy, can be devastating, not only for the patient, but also the reputation of modern medical/surgical practice in Lower and Middle Income Countries. In many countries, Australia included, there is always a proportion of the population who are not convinced of the efficacy of Western medicine.Language, politics, culture, availability of other treatment traditions are important considerations.Teaching anatomy in countries, where the social and religious culture allows appropriate cadaver dissection can facilitate a 3 dimensional understanding of anatomy of surgical approaches, this is essential for surgical trainees to gain confidence in this discipline. In countries such as Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia, these challenges have been addressed, with a great degree of success, in teaching anatomy to undergraduates and surgical trainees.More recently, surgical skills laboratories have assisted in acquiring vital knowledge of the anatomy of surgical approaches.
