P3‐496: THE USE OF THE ‘ROSEMARY AGENDA’ TO DAILY LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA: PRELIMINARY OBSERVATIONSстатья из журнала
Аннотация: The “Rosemary diary” is a simple tool for PWD planned to be used without instructions; the first part makes reference to the traditional ROT – Reality Orientation Therapy; day, month, year, weather; the second part collects informations like mood, drugs, nutrition, hydration, constipation, sleep, fitness, mental exercises, pain. The daily use of the diary is facilitated with pictures and icons that accompany simple questions. Every 7 days some pages have been inserted as a reminder for the weekly events, like grocery shopping, payments, doctor's visits and for the self-evaluation of physical and mental training done during the week. Objective: the aim of the study is to understand if this tool could support the daily life of PWD regarding cognitive functioning and autonomy. We observed in the last year n° 87 people with mild-moderate dementia ( 30 M, 57F, mean age: 80 ±74 years) divided in two groups: n° 71 (1G) who used the diary (one hour/day/ for 7 day per week for 3 months) and n° 16 (2G) who used traditional tools (calendars, clocks, reminders ecc.). At the beginning (T0) and the end (T1) of study time, we evaluated cognitive performance (MMSE), ADL ( Barthel Index) and mood (using GDS- short version). The data were subjected to statistical analysis with SPSS. we found an improvement in MMSE scores ( t = 7.31, p< 0.00) only for the 1G while for both groups we have a good answer in depression (1G: GDS: t= 5,36, p < 0.001; 2G: GDS: t= 2,25, p< 0.05) and daily autonomy (1G -ADL: t=7.85; p<0.001; 2G -ADL: t=2.37, p<0.05). These preliminary observations suggest that a tool like Rosemary diary could have positive effects on cognitive functions (temporal and spatial orientation, work memory) and ADL: the cognitive stimulation may not be limited to improve orientation and memory, but also interact to improve skills in ADL to promote and maintain independence. The diary can help to maintain, organize and consolidate cognitive functions for every daily activity but these observations need more accurate studies conducted on a large sample of people with cognitive impairment.
