Аннотация:For the first time, on the basis of all the manuscripts known to date, the article discusses the history of creation, as well as the problems of the versions of the literary source of the story “Where Love Is, There God Is Also” by Leo Tolstoy. Previously unrecorded archival materials are introduced into scientific circulation. The formation of poetics elements in this work is traced fully and comprehensively through the entire manuscript fund, in contrast to the established scientific tradition: our predecessors addressed only selectively published fragments. The author presents a new view on the writer’s comprehension of the literary source of the story - the Christmas fairy tale “Father Martin” by the French writer Ruben Saillens. The literary-biographical material shows how this work met Tolstoy’s aesthetic and moral-philosophical views, revealed his civic position.
