Аннотация:One truly successful and expanding application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. This chapter introduces the state of the art of some key issues in WSN research. It reviews intelligent monitoring and SHM, presents recent trends in Internet of Things (IoT)-SHM, and discusses the network overlay. Although SHM sensing techniques follow the basic principles of smart functions for WSNs, it is quite hard to specify which particular function should be used in any particular application. The chapter suggests a few that could be used in various WSN-SHM application scenarios more than in conventional, so called 'ubiquitous sensing' scenarios. It presents some brief discussions on compressed smart sensing for WSNs and energy consumption. Non-destructive testing and evaluation systems may thrive as IoT-SHM applications, benefiting from huge range of resources, protocols, and standards that the IoT-SHM concept brings.
