Аннотация:This article discusses works by Oh Haji, Soni Kum, and Yamashiro Chikako, three contemporary artists from Japan and Okinawa who work in a range of media including textiles, performance, and film. Drawing from Ukai Satoshi’s discussion of “Islands, Archipelagos, Peninsulas, and Continents,” I provide an analysis of select works by these artists, highlighting the trope “island and diaspora.” I argue that Oh’s textile objects and installations, Kum’s video and live-performance works, and Yamashiro Chikako’s performance, video, and film works enable audiences to reimagine islands in East Asia and create new spaces for dialogue in the region and beyond.
