New species and records of Flabellifera from the Indian Ocean (Crustacea: Peracarida: Isopoda)статья из журнала
Аннотация: Abstract In this study of flabelliferan Isopoda from the Indian Ocean, 19 species are described as new, in 11 genera and two families: family Cirolanidae, Baharilana koloura, B. lira, Cirolana aldabrensis, C. mimulus, C. somalia, C. undata, Eurydice paxilli, and Metacirolana chemola; family Sphaeromatidae, Cassidinidea clarkae, Cymodoce fuscina, C. lirella, Dynamenella alveolata, D. remex, Heterodina (new genus), H. mccaini, Oxinasphaera brucei, O. furcata, O. tetrodon, Paracilicaea stauros, and Sphaeromopsis sulcifera. Diagnoses of the genera and species are provided, and keys to the Indian Ocean species of most of the genera are provided. The material comes primarily from Aldabra Atoll, the granitic Seychelles islands, Zanzibar Island, and Phuket in Thailand. A few miscellaneous samples from the South African Museum collections, and from the International Indian Ocean Expedition carried out in the mid‐1960s are included. In addition to the anonymous collectors of the International Indian Ocean Expedition, we are very grateful to the following: Mr Jack Rudloe, who collected at Nosy Bé, Madagascar, during the IIOE; Ms Janice Clark Walker of the Department of Zoology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, who participated in the Smithsonian's Aldabra Research Program; Dr Niel Bruce of the Zoological Museum, Copenhagen, who contributed rich collections from Zanzibar and Phuket; Dr John McCain who collected material in the Persian Gulf off Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during the course of environmental studies; Mrs Michelle van der Merwe of the South African Museum, and Dr Peter Davies of the Queensland Museum, Australia, who made material available on loan. We wish to acknowledge with thanks the assistance given to Dr Niel Bruce in the field by Matt Richmond, and the generous provision of facilities by the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Dar es Salaam at Zanzibar. We thank the Smithsonian Institution's Office of the former Assistant Secretary for Science, and the Office of the Director, National Museum of Natural History, for financial support during five collecting seasons on Aldabra Atoll during the 1980s. We thank the Seychelles Islands Foundation for logistic support and permission to collect on both Aldabra Atoll and in the granitic Seychelles.
