Аннотация:This study explores working class political participation in the cities, primarily in Mexico City, during the period from 1968 to 1995 from the point of view of citizenry and social movements using Charles Tilly's approach which combines structural differentionation with changes in the natureof group action. This serves to show that social movements are not only specific groups but public an cultural processes and challenges with a dialectic accumulation of political events capable of altering and affecting structure an institutions. The second premise is to understandsocial movements as transsitions, as Francesco Alberoni does, whose true origin lies in the transgression of institutionality, which is then replaced by an emerging, creative state, full of effervescence and collective energies.
