PURPOSE: The purpose is to provide healthcare providers and researchers with a broad understanding of heart failure including the neurohormonal responses, maladaptive consequences of heart failure, the molecular biology of the pathophysiology of heart failure, and the clinical manifestations of heart failure. These objectives are very practical in light of the fact that heart failure is so prevalent in the U.S.—and the author meets them. AUDIENCE: The book is written for healthcare providers, researchers, and trainees. It is written in such a manner that the pictures depict heart failure in a very simplistic manner yet all of the complex aspects are addressed such that even people who have significant experience in heart failure would appreciate this book. The author is well published in the field of heart failure and physiology. ASSESSMENT: This is the first edition of this book, and I think it is an excellent review of heart failure which can be utilized by all who take care of heart failure patients.
