Аннотация:The standoff between Ambrose of Milan and the anti-Nicene court party over the latter's use of the Portian basilica during the Easter season of 386 has typically been studied in the light of Ambrose's letters, his sermon against the anti-Nicene bishop Auxentius, and the account of his biographer Paulinus. This paper argues that fresh light can be shed on both the importance of the Portiana to the anti-Nicenes and on the radicalism of Ambrose's refusal to cede it to them by bringing liturgical and archeological evidence to bear on the question.
