Аннотация:The most famous herald of the Florentine Signoria, Antonio di Matteo di Meglio, held that office from 1417 to 1448. As one of the most prolific incumbents of that post during the existence of the office from 1350 to 1532, Antonio di Meglio's fame was widespread. Much of his verse has survived in manuscript copy, yet this quite fascinating figure receives scant attention in anthologies and histories. In spite of Francesco Flamini's seminal work, La Iirica toscana del Rinascimento anteriore ai tempi del Magnifico, published in 1891, both the office of herald and the poetry produced by the incumbents remain relatively unknown. Flamini's work contains some of the history of the office of herald, some biographical data about the incumbents, and extracts from their texts. However, to date there has been no comprehensive study devoted to the position of herald and the works produced by the incumbents.
