Аннотация:Recent experimental measurements of the dissociative recombination (DR) cross section with high energy resolution have shown not simply an E-1 dependence, as predicted by the zeroth-order theory of direct DR in which the Rydberg (Ryd) states are omitted, but rather this dependence modulated by a fine structure which shows more evidence of dips than of peaks. The present theoretical treatment starts from the direct DR theory and then couples the quasi-discrete vibrational levels of the Ryd states, interpreted as resonances, to the dissociating state's wavefunction, without appealing to the less probable indirect DR process. The main result is the simple multiplication of the zeroth-order cross section at each isolated resonance by an overall factor (cos eta r+e- rho sin eta r)2. The appropriate states for H2 are briefly discussed.
