Аннотация:Children and adolescents (N = 76) being treated for cancer were administered a semistructured interview assessing coping behaviors and perceived control in order to determine whether greater congruence between coping and perceived control is associated with lower psychological distress in response to cancer-related stressors. The findings indicate that the use of problem-focused coping strategies was associated with higher appraisals of control, and the use of emotion-focused coping was associated with lower appraisals of control. Age was found to moderate the relation between coping and control. The goodness of fit of the match between coping and appraisals of control was associated with psychological distress for problems related to school and treatment at the hospital.
