Аннотация:The importance of the contribution made by Eric Dunning and his colleagues at the University of Leicester to the study of football hooliganism is well established. This does not mean that the Leicester School's approach has been without its critics. This essay revisits the figurational analysis provided by Dunning and others and also examines some of the major criticisms that have been made of the Leicester School's work. It is argued that, although the latter can legitimately be challenged, so too can the perspectives offered by some of the more virulent critics. That said, it is also suggested in this essay that there may well be more common ground in this debate than some of the main adversaries would care to admit and that notwithstanding the validity of some of the criticisms directed at Dunning and his colleagues, the Leicester School has unquestionably and justifiably secured a hegemonic position in this particular area of sociological inquiry.
