Аннотация:Abstract: This article historicizes the cinematic phenomenon of "new waves" in an effort to descry the set of conditions for their emergence. By deeming the nation-state one such condition, the essay contends that new waves will disappear or find new purpose under globalization. The Mexican "new wave" suggests this new purpose.
