Аннотация:The purpose of this study is to assess the professional performance of the Licensed Practical, builders popular without an engineering degree and / or architect, between 1893 and 1933 as a prime key to understanding the history of the formation of architectural and urban city of Sao Paulo.In a period in which St. Paul passed through profound transformations architectural and urban planning, the role of builders Brazilian, Portuguese, German and Italian great wave of immigrants in building the city has not been without struggles with the most qualified professionals (say, graduates).In this sense, we understand precisely the conflicts and the process of organizing the building in Sao Paulo, in an era that began the institutionalization of the teaching profession of engineer-architect, with the creation of the Polytechnic School and Mackenzie in São Paulo.Therefore, the analysis of the dynamics of transformation of the Sao Paulo metropolis is being studied from the action of builders, especially from the late nineteenth century, contributed to the formation of the town since they built houses of upper middle class and low workers' homes, rent houses, terrace walls and basements, introduced latrines, shared windows for doors, raised walls, fences, barns and warehouses.
