Аннотация:The objective of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of citizenship in the district of Sant'Anna Paranahyba, Mato Grosso, during the Second Empire, through the analysis of criminal cases.For this, we studied the daily lives of ordinary people of that locality, including how they perceived the crimes, the physical and bureaucratic structure of the Judiciary of Sant'Anna, and how was the relationship between people and the judges.The aim is thus to illuminate the formation of the Brazilian state in Mato Grosso, and especially one of his arms most forgotten, the Judiciary.
