The essay is dedicated to the memory of Maxim Grigorievich Levin, who was deputy director of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences, head of the anthropology sector in the distant 50s of the last century. Levin was a major anthropologist and ethnographer who devoted his life to the study of anthropology and ethnography of the peoples of Siberia and the Far East. He made a significant contribution to the methodology of studying such a complex historical phenomenon as ethnogenesis
