Аннотация:Idioms have long been of interest to research in linguistics as well as literary studies. In the existing research, however, the aesthetic productivity of idiomatic ambiguity has never been in focus. The present study on Idioms and Ambiguity in Context fills this gap by analyzing a corpus of children's literature--traditionally characterized by a high measure of wordplay and ambiguity--both in a linguistic and literary perspective. Looking at the connection between context and understanding of idiomatic expressions in either their phrasal or their compositional reading, the study explores how ambiguity is activated, if, how, and when it is perceived on the different levels of communication, and how literary texts use this ambiguity in playful ways.

Однако в существующих исследованиях эстетическая продуктивность идиоматической двусмысленности никогда не была в центре внимания. Настоящее исследование, посвященное идиомам и двусмысленности в контексте, восполняет этот пробел, анализируя корпус детской литературы, традиционно характеризующийся большим количеством игры слов и двусмысленности, как с лингвистической, так и с литературной точки зрения. Рассматривая связь между контекстом и пониманием идиоматических выражений как во фразовом, так и в композиционном прочтении, исследование исследует, как активируется двусмысленность, если, как и когда она воспринимается на разных уровнях коммуникации, и как художественные тексты используют эту двусмысленность в игровой форме.
