Аннотация:Presented here are the main stages of creating, updating of a word potato collection of VIR, its maintaining and studying for solving of actual problems in breeding in various regions of Russia, Byelorussia and Kazakhstan are submitted. The data on creation of initial material for breeding on basis of collection samples for solving potato breeding problems being in the effective way of increase yield, tuber quality and resistance to main pathogens. The data on studying possibilities of use wild and cultivated potato species in breeding are generalized. The perspective initial material for solving main tasks of potato breeding is recommended.
