Статья посвящена рассмотрению проявления «героического» и «трагического» в творчестве родоначальника стиля «революционный классицизм», французского живописца Жака-Луи Давида (1748–1825). Данный автор внес значительный вклад в формирование стиля «неоклассицизм» в XVIII столетии, визуального образа героя своего времени, а также в целом общего восприятия героя в эпоху локальных и глобальных трансформаций. В своих работах Давид продемонстрировал, что качество героического и трагического может быть проявлено не только в идеальном античном образце – герое-полубоге и в образе святого мученика и праведника, заданного христианской культурой Средних веков и Возрождения. Герой Нового времени – человек, отдаленный от Бога, самостоятельно совершающий сложный выбор – выбор между личным и общественным, чувствами и долгом. Это человек культа Разума, культа, который, несмотря на краткий промежуток своего официального существования, не исчез из жизни социума, сохранив «взывание к разуму» в качестве важного элемента культуры перемен. С целью наиболее полного раскрытия особенностей визуализации «героического» и «трагического» в живописи неоклассицизма XVIII столетия проведен анализ исследовательских трудов по выбранной теме, рассмотрена творческая биография художника Жака-Луи Давида как одного из ключевых представителей стиля, а также осуществлен философско-искусствоведческий анализ одной из важнейших работ его «революционного классицизма» – «Ликторы приносят Бруту тела его сыновей», 1789 г....
